Any info on the TC LMS drivers?

Does anyone know anything about the LMS-5400, or the LMS-4100 NEO drivers? I was thinking about getting a TC-3000 but do you think it would be better to hold off until those LMS drivers come out? What will be the main differences between the TC-3000 and the LMS line?

depends on your goals

The TC3000 is an amazing driver, absolutely phenomenal. It has been designed for the car environment and will get stupid loud and sound awesome in a tiny enclosure.

The LMS4000 is a...sublime driver, but has been designed for the home theater crowd and not the car environment (FS of 15hz, Vas of 170l and a QTS of .54) It digs much deeper, requires a MUCH larger box, and due to room gain will have an exaggerated low-end (in the car environment)

I thought the TC3000 needs a fairly big box, like 2 cu ft sealed for the 12...
Too big of a box for me...

I'm pretty sure I've seen Kyle post a few times that it is designed to work very well in small sealed enclosures, but don't quote me on that.

Yea I've heard that too but everytime the question arises to the exact recommended sizes, he seems to avoid it.

Contrary, on the TC forum I've seen other members say that they need pretty big boxes to get a fairly flat response curve.

So I dunno, I'm waiting for Kyle himself to put out some numbers before I decide to buy it.

They post the thiele small parameters on the site.

They have an extremely small VAS and low QTS, which equates to extremely small enclosures.

depends on the QTC you wish to achieve

a QTC of .95 requires only a .179 cubic foot box (yes .179 cubic feet) and with room gain you'll achieve nearly a ruler flat response

ok ok ok

i dont work for tc sounds but i joined there forum and its alot of info on there

the tc 3k sub dont need a big box....for the 15 u can slap it in 2 cubes sealed and call it a day

but as far as the lms subs....lms5400 is no joke......when u see a 4slug 4hp motor tooled to except more xmax and has unlimited power handling....your in for a treat...and thats all i'm going to say

you can tell a lot of how a subwoofer will perform by understanding the concepts of thiele small parameters and applying what you know to the provided information...

its a lot safer to go that route and design your own enclosure than to go with manufacturers recommendation as you can design your box around your own goals and not what they percieve your goals to be;)

can yo give me a little better explanation of qts, vas, etc and how they effect box sizes and stuff?

Vas represents the volume of air that when compressed to one cubic meter exerts the same force as the compliance (Cms) of the suspension in a particular speaker. A larger VAS means...a larger box.

QTS will help you determine what sort of response you're going to get and what enclosure the speaker will work best in.

a low QTS rolls off earlier but less severely and a high QTS rolls off later but more severely

a QTS under .4 generally will point to a Vented Enclosure, .4-.7 will point to a Sealed Enclosure, and .7+ will point to Infinite Baffle Setups

drivers generally have terrible performance under their FS, unless you apply active equalization you will have very low SPL numbers under the FS.

good read!
