I personally always join batteries with the biggest wire possible. 0awg in most cases for what I do. the only problem is that depending on how long the run is, the 4 gauge may not be up to par for what you're doing,. 1500w is about topping the scale on 4 gauge's current capacity if I recall, so you may notice a slightly better voltage on the battery if you do upgrade.
