So I work as a cashier in a Video Lottery where we have video lotto terminals. These machines only except Bills ( no change ) and you can only make a bet as little as $.05 and as large as $2.00.

Now that that is out of the way heres the story. A new player came in today, I have a clientèle of about 20-30 people who I see on a regular basis. After a couple trips in you figure out if they play big money or nickels. I had a lady come in today, who happened to be black, not a big deal as 1/3-1/2 ppl who come here are, and she sat down and began to play.

I asked her if she wanted a drink and she declined. At that time I looked to see her bet, but she was out of credits so i was unable to determine how much she played or what denominations she preferred, some ppl want to put $5 in a at a time others $20.

About 5 minutes later she came with a ticket stating she had won $21.50, she also handed me $.50 with it. Normally I dont deal with change as the machines won't accept it so I will round there ticket up or down to the nearest dollar amount, since she handed me the $.50 I assumed she was a small denomination player, because most big players could careless about the $.50

I handed her 4 $5 bills and 2 $1 bills. Immediately I saw a look of disgust come on her face and I thought I may have shorted her money, which i did not. She then said I would like a $20 bill please. At which point scenes from Rush Hour go through my head of Chris Rock saying, " why you give the black man Hunnad dolla chips when the white ppl have fi hunad dolla chips"

The lady played her money and left, although I could tell she was offended by my $5 offer.

Clif's: Young Afrifican American girl comes in to where I work. I give her 5 dollar bills she gets offended because I didnt give her a 20.

On another note, if I went to redeem my ticket for say $35.50 and you rounded down and didn't give me my $0.50, I'd say something about it.

usually i round up on the first one, and down on the 2nd one. Prevents ppl from getting pissed.

although sometimes I start giving them exact change ( ie if they are cashing out for .60 cent everytime and I know they are doing it on purpose
