another "what 8" should i buy" thread

Let me clarify, a woofer with a lower Fs will produce lower frequencies easier than a woofer with a higher Fs, and because 8s tend to have a higher Fs than say a 15, they will not produce the lower notes as easily.
A woofer is greater than the sum of it's parts. There is no on paper spec that will directly relate to low frequency extention (LFE). The variables that account for good and poor low end on any driver are great and many.

I'm not saying an 8 will naturally play lower than an 15 since raw displacement is a large factor, but to say FS is the only indication of LFE is like saying the Efficiency of a speaker is the only indication of what kind of output a speaker is capable of.

PS: I explained that LFE = Low Frequency Extention because if you think FS is the only indication of said LFE, you have much to learn and need to start somewhere.

If you want something that gets low I would recommend the rli-8's. I've ran both the re's and the rli's. The re's are a great cheap woofer, but the rli's were much more impressive down low even with a tune of 35hz.

Go big or go home, JL 8W7. I'd put it up against pretty much any 8 with confidence. Love the way it sounds!! Worth the money?? Thats questionable, but if you can find a deal, or just want to splerge and get it, you won't be disipointed..

According to the "FS masters" the RL-i/TC-1000 will whoop just about anything with a low FS of 25hz
First I will say hello to everyone. Its is nice to be a member of another great Caraudio Forum.

Now, if we are saying the FS is what matters to how low a sub will play ( which is true when you are talking about how low it will play with less effort). The KING of 8's with the lowest FS will BEEE!

The Arc Audio - Arc 8d2 with an FS of 22.7 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

1 or 4 ohm

Resonant frequency : 22.7Hz

Sensitivity : 85.4 db

RMS power handling : 150 watts

Electrical "Q" : .317

Mechanical "Q" : 3.331

Total "Q" : .289

Equivalent volume: 1.7

One way linear: 15 mm

Mounting depth : 4.75"

Optimum sealed enclosure : .35 cuft

Ported enclosure : .6 cuft

And yes this little monster plays crazy low. I put one of these in the factory box of a 2006 Linclon Mark LT ( had to add a spacer to make it fit) Man this thing sounds great and when you need shake some things off the dash it can do it and it does, and this is in the factory ABS plastic box.

ive been thinking, im not sure if i wanna change the factory HU or 6 disc changer in this car...if i can add maybe 2 8s just to add some nice low end bass, and use the stock harmon/kardon HU, ill do that. maybe change out the speakers as well. not sure, but i like the look with the factory HU and dont wanna change any of it...

I'd say Tang Band Neo 8s from PE. While you're there pick up some aperiodic membranes and use those to compensate for enclosure space.
i took your advice and got 4 of them, and i gotta say they are incredible. very efficient subs that pounds off of 120 rms each.
