Another Manufacturer Says Xbox 360 Blu-ray Coming This Year

A report from Taiwanese news source Economic Daily News says that Pegatron Technology—a recently formed subsidiary of Asus that shouldn't be confused with the Decepticon leader—has received an order from Microsoft to manufacture a Blu-ray equipped model of the Xbox 360. According to the report, Pegatron says that it plans to begin production on the HD version of the Xbox 360 soon, with plans to ship within the next six months, aiming for a pre-holiday release.

I hope they make a stand-alone player...I don't want to get buy a new 360.

Also, this is just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

Oh now I get it.

I think the sooner they come clean about it, the more xboxs they would sell - because people are buying PS3s JUST for Blu-ray.

Got some bad news...I figured this would happen. 360 will not offer the Blu-Ray format as a result of DVD still being very very popular (87% or something like that) and Blu-Ray only in like 12% of homes (mostly thanks to PS3s)

Microsoft's Kim: No Blu-ray Drive Coming for Xbox 360

SAN FRANCISCO — Microsoft has nothing in development for any type of Blu-ray Disc add-on for the Xbox 360, said Microsoft Game Studios head Shane Kim, head of Microsoft Games Studios, during a roundtable at the company’s 360 Spring.
Microsoft had backed competing high-def format HD DVD with an add-on drive, which has since been discontinued. The internal drive of Xbox 360 uses a standard DVD format.

“I know Blu-ray provides some visual boost for people who want a physical HD format, but we’re not seeing that format taking off, in general,” Kim said. “The DVD format is still doing well. Eventually, the price of Blu-ray players will come down to $150 and the value proposition of a $300 or $400 PlayStation 3 as a game console and movie player will be impacted.”

and yeah they should make it an add on, do you have any idea how p1ssed off customers would be if they had to buy new xboxs just to get the blu-ray version? They would surely lose my business with a move like that. the least they could do is offer an amazing trade in deal.

i am pretty sure I would buy a ps3 if microsoft pulled some crap like that... Hopefully it'll be stand alone
