ok i know its been beaten to death but i searched and cant find the answers i need for my application.

my light dim real bad and i can tget a H/O alt for my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif so im just gonna run a second battery. what battery should i use? yellow top? what size? also how would i wire it? just run a run of 1/0 back from pos to pos and thne make a 1/0 ground on front battery and rear battery? whgats this battery isolator i hear about all the time?

is there anything im missing bassicially? any help or input would be appreciated looking to do this before i kill my alt which is a 80 or 90 amp:uhoh:

i love when you type out an actual useful response, and then click post reply, and you're not signed in anymore.....

my router FTL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

ya, an isolator just seperates your batteries, so your system will only be able to draw from the battery its hooked up to, and your car will only be able to draw from the battery its hooked up to.

only important if you're adding a deep cycle, and want to be able to listen to your system with the car off

do it if you like, but you'll probably still need an alt, 80 or 90 amp is pretty small. i assume by "4 gauge all around" you mean you've done the big 3 also? that should be big enough for what you're doing with your electrical system but if you come up on some cheap 1/0 i'd redo it in the thicker wire.

i'd be looking into an alternator if i were you, you'll be fine with one decent battery.

adding an isolator will give you something like a .3, .4 volt drop at the rear battery.

aright so i should invest in one since my main battery up front wont be deep cycle? which class yellow top should i get? where can i get an isolator? what 1/0 would you guys recomend of rbest performance/size/price ratio?

adding an isolator will give you something like a .3, .4 volt drop at the rear battery.
There are a handful of isolators available which have less than a .1Vdrop at high loads (over 200amps). There are more low loss isolators coming out all of the time.

aright so i whent shopping ta local store today to price around, came up with a yellow top 34/78 for 160 bucks, is this is a good deal though? will that battery serve its purpose as a battery in the trunk? shal i go buy it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well, the benefit of a yellow top is being able to discharge it to a relatively low voltage without killing cells

but without an isolator, you'd be taking your starting battery down to dangerously low charge if you used the yellow for it's true useage

and a deep cycle generally has higher esr and lower cranking amperage compared to an equally sized standard duty battery

a standard dual battery setup is basically just adding up all the batteries in the system, regardless of their placement, for a higher combined reserve capacity

i think you need to figure out what your actual intentions are for the second battery
