Who are they to judge a person's character? EVERYONE breaks the law, singling people out because they are "bad eggs" is wrong IMO. Treating people like that just reinforces their negative attitudes.

What you are implying the world should be like is easier said than done. Its easy to say "I wont judge people by their appearance", but the next time an old woman in ragged clothes comes up to you with her hand held out, your first thought will be that she will say "please sir, do you have any change" instead of "please sir, can you help me, I just wrecked my mercedes".

Cops have an even tougher time. Say they stop singling out the 'bad eggs', and spread their attention around. This gives he 'bad eggs' more time to break into our homes while we are late to work because a cop pulled us over for 2mph over the limit, while spreading his attention around.

Airports are trying the opposite approach... completely random attention. What do people say about that method? they say things like "why did airport security search my 92 year old grandmother, while the arab man behind us in line with the bulge in his coat was not searched". Be careful you are not asking for a fantasy, such a airport security that does no profile but still operates in an efficient and effective manner. Or cops who do not profile, but still operate in an efficient and effective manner.

Can profiling be an ignorant and destructive thing? Yes. Is it sometimes useful, and even necessary, in order to achieve a necessary goal? What do you think?

yeah it is wrong but it's the way of the beast. I can usually judge a persons character by talking to them for 5 mins. just by the way they talk, act, carry themselves, and there attitude. and 8 times out of 10 I'm right. and id bet if you were the one out there every night dealing with a **** attitude every time you try and do your job your attitude would change. every cop is different.

I carry a gun concealed on me at all times, every time i get stopped i must inform the cop of that. some cops want to be jerk offs and have you get out of the car and pat you down and put you in the back off his car for a half hour and treat you like a piece of ****. some will sit there and talk to you about it and ask you how you like it and have a nice conversation about guns with you for a half hour. every cop handles the stresses of his job differently. an idea would be grow up a little, stop driving around at midnight with 8 people in the car buzzed up and high and stop giving them a **** *** attitude when they do stop you, they just might leave you alone.

Hell around here once you get in good with a few of the cops they pretty much leave you alone. I had a neighbor that was a cop, me n him used to drink a few beers from time to time with a couple of the other cops and ever since then I aint been pulled over in my town. Once they know you you're either good or you're fucked, just be polite and 99% of the time the cops will be cool.
