Another bad experience at a local shop

I called around today to some local shops looking to demo a w7 in car as I have never heard one. According to some of the threads on here they have a distinct sound and as they are still on my sub short list, I wanted to check em out.

I find a shop with a car they are finishing up on with 3 10w7s and they say it is cool if I swing by in an hour of so to demo it.

I get there, the car is not ready (it took me 90 minutes to get there) and now it won't be ready until tomorrow (wtf). It sucked, but no big deal. So of course the sales guy wants to know what I'm looking for and so I tell him - a lot more output while maintaining good SQ.

He then proceeds to tell me 2 12w7's ported wont fit in my truck. I had made it clear the subs were not going under the seats. Apparently according to him they need some retarded large box. Then he tells me not only will they not fit but that my KX2500.1 is not enough juice for two 12w7s . "Kicker over-rates everything" and that my amp "really only pulls 800 watts RMS, if that". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I kept him going seeing how far he would go. He then proceeded to tell me how the JL slash series amps had set the audio world on its ear because when they came out no amps were as "efficient". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Everytime he said something wildly incorrect I would repeat it back to him slowly and have him confirm it. It got old fast. I told him he could stop and adios. He wanted to know when I was coming back to check out the w7's and when I wanted them to build me a box. "um. Never. Thanks"

Slash series amps being efficient... that's awesome.

I stopped checking out local audio shops. Most of them were pricks and didn't really have a clue about what was going on. It's really sad actually.

my local audio dealer told me slashes are a piece of shit and 1 guy brought back like the same amp 5-6 times under warranty im pretty sure they try not to sell them anymore. kx2500 underrated.... what a dumb bithc. whats the birthsheet on that amp like 2900? lol

Youll quickly find most JL dealers will defend and praise the products til they die. Simply put its their bread&butter. As a rep, Ive visited alot of dealers that happen to carry JL. I asked them "Whats your high end offerings for consumers?" They replied with JL across the board. Im there offering them products such as Dyn,Morel,Genesis,Tru,Arc,etc...They simply reply with "JL is our high end, that stuff is just higher priced".

I lawled.

i don't think this can be localized to jl dealers.

most people in general have no clue what they're talking about.

and 99% of the time, they can get away with it.

i'd love to try a kicker amp some day.

i just wish they were a little less flashy. The new models are a lot cleaner looking, but $$$$!!!

I'd buy one long before a jl amp, tho.

Well, that amp could maybe put out 800w at like...3ohm? Which is what the W7 needs right? I COULD BE WRONG DONT HATE

the memphis dealer was atleast knowledgable, and told me to steer clear of the memphis subs for SQ...

Memphis actually holds pretty informative training every quarter. At least they did when I dealt with them. JL doesnt...They just endorse the "Our products sell themselves" moto.
