an exhaust question, NJ

Ok my volvo has teh following on it:

rear muffler, center muffler, cat

I wanted to havea more throaty sound so i removed the rear muffler and it has this now:

center muffler and cat

No i have a lovely throaty sound coming out of my exhaust.

My question is: in NJ is it legal to removet he rear muffler but still keep the center muffler on it.

the center one is probably a resonator...
