ive been reading about fuse rating and all, and i now know that fuses can take double their ratings before they actually pop or whatever, so with that being said heres my ?

If an fuse can take more than what its rated at, why do people still go by fuse ratings? perfect example. say i posted an amp in an thread that said it was 1200rms. i post a couple pics of the amp, including pics of the fuses and there is only 2 40 amp fuses. you know and i know people will jump down my throat saying that " that amp only has 80 amps of fusing, even at 100% efficency theres no way in the hell that amp can do 1200rms blah blah blah"

but if a fuse can take more than its rated, whos too say that the amp actually cant put out 1200rms? and thats not even factoring in that amps have capacitors in them.

Everyone give me there take on the situation!

It can take double it's rating for a short period of time...

Any wire can. Any conductor can, for that matter.

And circuitry can't take that much power.

double rated for 3secs before it blows is a general rule. ask meca guys that burp 2500rms off a 50 amp fuse,lol

yea but heres what im saying. if an amp had 80 amp fusing then it could possibly put out 1600rmsif it were like 100% efficent. but to make 1200rms it wouldnt need to draw 160amps to make 1200rms right?

rofl yeah man it cant sustain that much amp draw for that long. maybe that amp could peak at "x" amount of power theoretically but the fuse ratings dont lie about what it puts out.

if an amp was 100% efficient on a 14.4v system with 160 amps being drawn continuously, it would lay down over 2300 watts. your 80 amp fusing will get you 1152 watts if it is 100% efficient... which it is not. factor that in and youre getting near 900 watts. now, your amp will not draw more than 80 amps for any longer than a few seconds at most or else they will pop and youll have no sound.
