Amplifier Gain Question-not how to set!

Okay, I have a Boston GT-28 which is supposed to do 1100@2ohms mono. I also have a GT-24 which is supposed to do 750@2ohms mono. My question is, if I use the voltage method of setting the gain on the GT28 it is supposed to be 46.9 volts for that wattage, and the GT24 is supposed to be 38.7.

Now if I was to set the GT28's gain to 38.7, would that be an effective, safe way of reducing power? I have a 4 ohm DVC sub, and don't really want to send 1100 watts to it, but I also don't wanna raise the ohm load to 8ohms.

I hope this made sense to someone besides me.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
