Amp won't power sub

Hey CA,

I'm new to the site, but not really to car audio. I'm having a issue right now though. I just purchased a DUB 500w amp for my PA Fubar-10". Friday and Saturday, all was fine, altough it did go out a few times.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif I was thinking loose connection so I redid my wiring to the amp and checked to make sure nothing was loose from my HU or sub. Nothing is, but if you're familiar with DUB/Audiobahn amps, there is a light that should be green, but instead it is red. It's something to do with Power Protection I believe. I guess there may be too much power going to the SUB, but I highly doubt that. I was running a MTX 400w amp with no problems, and it acutally is louder, but it overheats[no fan, older model] and something will even melt the fuse, which I know is no good. Is anyone capable of telling my why this amp will not power the sub. Power is going to the amp though, and then my MTX amp will power the sub???

Someone help please...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

If I am correct, if it is grounded wrong, the amp wouldn't even power on? Blue wire is to the R+, Silver to L-, same way on my input.

I messed around with the wiring and put it on Blue R- and Silver L+ and you could hear a low noise, the sub was on, but really I don't know what is up. I have it wired the same exact way the MTX was wired and how it was yesterday.

BTW, I've got a 99' Ranger Autumn Orange, do you think it's possible to switch to the newer model headlights w/o modifications or would I have to have that custom?

Preciate the help.

Not really. I had it powered by a DUB 220w amp and it worked fine, but then again it could be the fact it's a Audiobahn, their products are carppy. Every Audiobahn[not DUB brand] sub I've owned has blown, which is only 2 types, but still...

Tried all suggestions, still to no solution. Right now my MTX amp is hooked up, and it's sounding good. I really wish I had the instruction manual right now to look up troubleshooting. Can anyone get the guide in PDF off of DUB site and see if it's got how to do so?

Another thing, why would it ever go into "power protection" mode? I know thats a kind of broad question, b/c it could be for a lot of reasons, but any guesses?

The amp can go into protection mode for many reasons,

-the speaker(s) could be wired to too low of a load for the amp

-bad ground (as suggested)

-overheating

-being overdriven or past its capability

You have no answered what your speaker is wired to yet, so what is it?

I dont think your ground is an issue, as it works with your other amps.

I do think you might be expecting too much from this DUB amp, and you are pushing her too hard. I'm sorry, but its a garbage amp, so dont expect much. The MTX amp you have is MUCH better than this one. Turn the gain down, and see if that helps it.

Try removing constant 12 volt and remote power, and pull the rca wires and see if iit brings it out of protect.
...Then it wouldnt turn on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I do suggest remove the speaker wires from the amp, as well as the RCA's, and see if it will have a green light. If not, then I would say the amp is gone.

Where was the amp purchased from? If its on eBay your probably looking at a bad amp. If you got it retail, just take it in to the shop to have em look at it and get a brand new one if its still under warranty.

Yeah, that'll be no problem. I got it from Wal-Mart, but I threw the box away, so all I have is the amp and my word[as well as reciept], so they should take it back. I really like my MTX Thunder overall though, so I think I'm going to keep it hooked up for now.

No, you need original packaging... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Bad purchase in the first place FTL

That's all good though man, I actually took back the 220W DUB amp back inside the 500W amp box and they took it back. Got my reciept back too, but I guess that quote "what goes around comes around" is true. The amp worked well on my brothers setup, so I'm guessing it's something to do with my battery or something, because my lights do dim pretty bad, and I don't have a cap or anything.

Thanks to all ya'll for the help...
