Amp won't power on

I've been trying to help a buddy of mine's amp over the last few days and we are completely stuck. Neither of us have very much experience with car audio in general.

No matter what we do, we can't even get the amp to turn on. I've checked the entire power lead, including the fuse. I've checked the fuses on the amp. Also made sure we had a very solid ground. Used a voltmeter to check just about everything I can think of... yet I can't even get the led to power on. I even tried putting my amp into his car, and I got the same results. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Other info you might need: It's a pontiac G6, using the stock head unit. As such, he's using a line out converter.

If anyone has anything, even food for thought, it would be greatly appreciated.

That was kinda what I had figured. I had heard from someone that you could still get power without the remote start hooked up... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif that's what I get for thinking people know what they're talking about.

Any idea on how I could find out which wire on the head unit is the remote start, without doing trial and error?

well,, you said you have a digital multi meter right? U should use that. In most cases the remote turn on wire will be blue. You can also use the power antenna lead if it is not being used. Basically any switched 12v should be fine. Use your dmm,, find a 12v switched and tell us how it turned out.

Quick and dirty check.

Connect main BATTERY and GROUND connections. Next, connect a short turn on lead (say 12") to the amps remote turn on terminal. Strip the unconnected end of the wire back about 1/4". Ttouch the bare end of the remote turn on lead to the BAT terminal. Does the amp light up?

Lol, remote turn on. whatever. I've literally had about 1 day of car audio experience so far.

Not remote start, Remote wire powers the amps with the cars ignition, from the deck, normally in acc position if you can find the cars switched 12v. Mine was the cigarette lighter wire. The amps work in the acc position and turns off when I open the door, just like the stock deck.

The first time I ever hooked up my own amp, I had zero prior knowledge whatsoever, and did the same as you. Then found an audio forum a couple years back and then found this place.

Alright, so I called him and had him run the remote turn on to a switched 12v source. He claims that he did it properly, but still isn't getting any power. Is there any other likely problems with our set up, or is it just that he made a mistake?

On a side note, I think I'll have to tell him about the quick and dirty check with the battery.
