Amp to power Pioneer TS-C520PRS 5.25" Components

Hey guys,

Just bought these 5.25" comps off of j_baby15 (well I don't have them yet), and am wondering wth to power them with. 30 watts nominal isn't much, and the efficiency of 88db isn't real high, so not quite sure what amp to power them with. Don't want anything cheap, but I don't want to spend 300$ for a 100x2 amp if I don't have to. I was thinking 50w x 2 would be ok, but I've read that they're rated quite conservatively. Anyone have any experience or want to add their 2 cents?

They're underrated. I would definitely go with at least 100 W per side or more, just watch your gains. Always good to have headroom.

I have a pair of the 720prs's and have a ppi pc2100 pushing them. The gain is little over half way and i feel they are going to just pop at times. The amp is rated 100x2. So i would not see why the 5 1/4 would need much power. Just my experience and two cents hope it helps

One thing i have learned about these components is that if you cross them over high 100-125hz they will take alot of power. The downside is that most of your midbass disappears especially if you have a strong sub presence.

I have found out that these play classic rock type music way better than rap or hip hop. I can play rock songs with my hi-pass at 50hz without a problem. I try that on hip hop they will bottom out. i would go with 6 3/4 if you can fit them. If you have any more questions just let me know i will try to help out with my experiance in these components. I got mine at woofersetc and they were the same price as the 5 1/4 at the time.
