Ok a few days ago I installed a Power Acoustik CPT1-3200D using 2 gauge power and ground (nice thick true 2awg) Everything worked for about an hour, then all of a sudden it cutout in went into protect mode, figured it was hot so a cut off the car and came back later.

long story short, it never came back out of protect mode.

Things I've done:

  • Re-Ground to better location
  • Checked for unwanted bi-grounding
  • Check connection to battery
  • Disconnected all but power and ground
  • Checked all fuses

Weird part is that when I bring it into the house, and connect it to a power supply, turns on just fine

Any ideas??

protect mode is due to speaker wiring, not power wiring. you're looking in the wrong place.

disconnect the speaker wires then reconnect and it should power on while in the car. that tells you to go over your speaker wires - ensuring no bare copper strands are visible at any point or connection (i.e. proper terminals and connection methods are used).
