ok well when my alpine amp is hooked up to one of my type r's it plays fine even when volume is cranked but when i hook it up to both subs and i hit a certain volume it shuts off for some reason. the blue light on the amp stays on and doesnt turn red as to go into protect but just shuts off, i then have to turn off my deck and turn it back on to get the amp to work again but does the same when it reaches sed volume.. anyone know whats happening? is it the amp, subs, or something else thats not working right?

What amp?

I'm gonna go ahead and assume the amp is not 1ohm stable, and you have both subs wired in parallel for a 1ohm load? If that's the case that's your problem. New amp time.

the amp is 2ohm stable so i ran both for a 4ohm load not a 1ohm load.

Do you have a DMM? Check the voltage on the amp. Then go back and check all your connections and clean up the wires if needed.

What amp you runnin?

its an mrd-m650. and if the voltage is the problem then shouldnt it do the same even if i have it wired to 1 sub? cuz it would be pushing more wattage to 1 sub at 2ohms rather than both at 4ohms right?

That's true yes. But I'd check anyways. Only takes a couple minutes. I'd go back and check all your connections again. And are you SURE you have the subs wired correctly? Not being a dick, we've all done it.

1 sub at 2 ohms won't necessarily pull more wattage than 2 subs at 4 ohms. You're one sub will reach it's 'max' output at a lower wattage than 2 subs would. Also, the 2 subs are demanding more amperage from your alternator.

What amperage is your alternator? Your amp may be trying to draw more power than is available, your voltage drops really low, and your amp shuts off to protect itself. Low voltage will also cause the amp to overheat.
