amp shuts off intermittently

hey i have a modded mtx 1501d. about a month ago it began "shutting off" (but it doesn't actually shut off) at random times. very very random times. then it will come back on in 3-5 minutes or so.. i cannot pinpoint a certain time it will happen.. it will just happen out of nowhere. sometimes it wont happen for an hour and sometimes it will happen every 10 minutes or so.. but not exactly at a certain time.. its happpened with the volume pretty high but not super high. and it's happened with the volume all the way down (i know because i had the volume all the way down and was talking to a buddy then when i turned up the volume the sub wasn't playing).. ive even turned all the settings on my EQ down in case it might be clipping. but it still happens. when it goes out the light on the amp is still on, indicating there is power. and i've checked the positive negative and ground terminal at the amp with a DMM when its in this "off" mode and it shows 14.4 volts.. so its getting power. my amp is modded to do 1 ohm and is wired ito 1 ohm. i am now beginning to think theres a faulty part(s) in the amp now and that i may need to have it changed.. but before i open it up and take pics and post them tomorrow at work, does anyone have any other idea of what it COULD be AT ALL?? i'd appreciate any good info at this time of frustration guys! thanks.

well, ever since i wired it down to 1ohm it does play hotter than usual.. but i had it @ 1ohm for months b4 the problem arised.. maybe i should put it bac to 4 ohm and c how that goes.. hmmm.. oh and my gain is set to about 20 volts max right now (400 watts max volume sine wave blablabla).. that seems to blend wth my components well for me.. and i just realized why am i in 1 ohm if 4 ohm will produce that 400 watts easily LOL shit.. maybe that's why?
