Amp shutoff

I completed an install in an 87 Licoln Town Car, on deep bass notes the amp will

shut off, I'm thinking this is due to the stock 65 amp alternator. I'm not positive

but i think a 500 rms amp will draw more than what the alternator can kick out.

But my question is, do you think the big 3 will completely solve the problem? This

was a low cost install and i'd hate to have to get a new alternator for the fool.

or maybe just turn the gain down some?

the gain was set using a 45 hz tone at 30 volts AC.. its only at about 5/8 cranked

how much power would a 500 watt amp draw?

an 80% efficient amp producing 500w at 14.4v will draw 43.4 amps

what ohm is that wired to?

its a 4 channel amp bridged at 4 ohms per sub

soundes like the amp does it shut off when the car is off??how are the subs wired

i dont think its the amp, it shuts off quicker when the car is off but it does shut off when the

car is on as well (just takes a couple more minutes) also if you leave it off for a few minutes

it'll play longer before it cuts which made me think it wasn't getting enuff power. Do you

think he needs a new alt? I believe the factory 65 amp alt puts out less than 40 amps at 3k

rpms, which is pretty shity

no he doesn't need a alt i think the subs are wired wong or its the amp or a wire is touching some where

Some lower quality 4 channel amps will not run with both sets of channels bridged as the internal power supply just can't handle it, the amp is still technically 4ohm mono stable, it just can't handle the current demands when both outputs are bridged.

allso see if the alt is good to do that start the car and diconect the + on the battery if the car dies the alt is bad if it's steal working then the alt is good...
