Amp question

So if I have a five channel amp with speakers and a sub running to it does that mean the sub is running through the low channels and not getting what it needs.. I was just told that if I want the sub to get 1000 watts from channel 5 it would have to be dedicated to that channel and not the speakers otherwise it's running though the low output channels and not getting enough power

A 5 channel amp has a dedicated subwoofer channel. If you are hooked up to it and at it's minimum impedance the amp is giving all it can on that channel. Provided it's set up correctly. If you unhook the other 4 channels it will still give the same amount of power

That's not what I'm being told now that's where I'm lost.. the amp is channel 1-4 at 120 and channel 5 1000... it's as DD d5.1000..I'm lost he's telling me I need a new amp or 2 rather

The whole thing is a mess the guy who installed the amp and sub did a hack job and the amp has no rca inputs so he says I can't run an aftermarket head unit with it.. he's got all kinds of rigged t taps and crazy stuff so he says there's no possible way to do it without running complete new amps

I'm also interested in knowing this also. I have hooked up/installed a few 5 ch amps in the past with no issues. It's not any diff than hooking up a 2 ch or 4 ch amp.

Now unless the RCA's were missing on the amp, then yeah, there's a problem.
