Amp question (new to form)

Hi guys new to the form! Had a question about my amp!

A little background of my set up

F150 extended cab stock electrical

5.4 cube box ported and tuned to 36hrz

Kicker l7 15 sub and box have replaced back seat and is firing up

Alpine deck with external amp running door speakers ( not problem)

Problem is sub amp hifonics brz1200 wired at 1ohm

This thing makes that l7 hit like crazy when the gains are all the way up but of corse the sub starts smelling and I shut it off right away. If I lower the gains below half the sub doesn't really hit but it no longer smells!

But this ***** cause I can't have the sub hitting like it should be!

I have the deck set at zero for bass

My question is if I upgrade to a REAL AMP kicker zx1000.1 will I be able to have the gains set low and have the sub hitting like it should be without the smell of the coils burning? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif making clean power

Basically what I'm getting at I'm assuming I smell the sub because the hifonics amp is putting out dirty power and clipping

Will switching to kicker fix my problem!

Forgot to say I'm running 0 gage wire for power and ground monster cables from deck to amp RCA if any of that helps and stock electrical! Yellow top battery

if your gain is turned all the way up you are for sure clipping. The gain is based off of what sub pre-out voltage your head unit is doing. If your pre-out voltage is 4volts then you want to match your gains to 4 volts. This is so your head unit and amp will reach it's max volume output at the same time. I'm running 1 SA-10 Subwoofer and my amp gain isn't turned up over 1/4 of the way. Try finding someone with an SMD DD-1 if you want it set properly otherwise put it at like a 1/4 and adjust settings on your deck.

I understand that I am clipping with amp gain turned up all the way but what I'm saying is that it's the only way to get that sub moving like it should!!!! If I'm only a quarter of the way up on the gain the sub is barley moving! So my question is will a kicker zx1000 or even zx1500 get the sub moving like it should with the gains up only a little? Or is my problem at the deck and the volts it's putting out!

Also would buying another deck with a higher volt pre out help?

I only keep the bass at zero out of +7 is because if I turn it up to 7 my door speakers become distorted!

ok found them. your deck is a 4 volt pre-out and looking at the amp settings this is what I would put them at just based on my experience.

Level knob at 1 oclock position --- phase on 0 degrees --- bass eq at 11 oclock position --- subsonic on 15 --- low pass at 9 oclock position

then if you wired your sub in parrallel you will either be at 1 ohm on the sub meaning its a dual 2 ohm sub or at 2 ohms meaning a dual 4 ohm sub. if its at 1 ohm you'll be pushing 1200 wats to the sub if its at 2 ohms you'll be pushing 900 watts to it. And your sub is rated at 1000 RMS. so ya

Very false statement.

Yes it is at 1ohm

Yes the deck is a 4 volt and I've had the settings on the amp at half way but it just doesn't hit like it would with the gain all the way up! But I no I'm clipping when I do this! The sub really hits though! So maybe buy a zx1500 and through 1500 watts at it? Then maybe it would hit like I like? Cause the sub isn't even hardly moving with gains set like how you described!
