Amp power from battery

I am sort of a newb but anyway, I have an amp wiring kit from walmart. My problem is that I can't get power from my battery, all I'm getting is the REM power.

Does the battery end of the cable need to be on the post directly?

My fuse is in perfect condition.

Yes put the positive wire on the post.

Some on told me to make sure the metal touches the post though. Is this the best way??
