Amp Killed my alt?

I installed my amp a couple ago, and everything ran fine. Everything worked great, and we ran the system of the battery for about 15 minutes. the bass wasn't hitting hard, so i went to take a piss. When i got outside, the car was shaking because it was hitting so hard. i thought about the gain, and turned it down, because he maxed it out. apparently, the dial on the amp didn't turn down the gain when i turned it, but i thought it did (i learned this later).

After jumping my battery 3 times in a day, i took my battery to get tested and it tested dead. so i was like, ok, it was 4 years old. After 24 hours of driving my car, the new battery died. I haven't thuroughly checked the car, but what are the chances the alt is dead? I had to charge it off my dad's car for 30 minutes to get it to drive 3 miles... i am not sure the output of the alt, but my bro put a new one in 2 years ago. I think it is 65-75 amps.

Shouldn't this be enough to power my entire car, the aftermarket H/U, and the alpine 3553 i got (once i turn the gain to proper setting)? What are the chances that running the system off the battery then trying to run the amp with the gain maxed killed my alt. Should i get rid of the sub, because i CANNOT afford a HO alt... shouldn't 65-75 amps be enough?

Thanks

How much current are you drawing? (What kind of amp). If its anything over 1000RMS most likely it did. If you have a DMM, test your voltage at the battery when the car is running. It should read 13-14+v.....otherwise go to autozone or something and have them check out your charging system (Usually they do it for free)

kill yourself.

We ran the sound system off the battery of the car for about 15 minutes before he cranked the gain. I don't think the amp is 1000 watts RMS....the only thing i know about it is that it does 35x4 at 4ohms. Otherwise i can't find anything else on it. It is an alpine 3553.

The battery is fine, i know it is the alternator. I am going to have it checked today. Once i get the new one in, do ya'll think it'll be ok to hook up the amp again, or is it just putting way to much strain on it?

I dont think it was your amp then...it could have finished the job but I doubt that was your problem...

Just got done installing the new altenator, and the car is amazing. everything is stronger now, and the engine has a little more force to it. my idle revs have dropped a little, but w/e, i think thats the battery. Best of all, i got the alt. free (Thank god for lifetime warrenties!). Now i am just going to wait till sunday to reinstall my amp, because the output on the altenator still is 8 amps lower than what it was tested at the week before. the mechanic who tested it looked at my cable running from my alt. to my battery and said "upgrade". so i will be putting some 2 gauge in straight from the altenator to the battery, unfused. i will upgrade my other "2 of the 3" later.
