was driving the other day and my system just stopped, have checked all connections. I have checked the input on my terminals (12.45v) and it is the same as im getting off battery so live and earth is perfect no problems with RCA but my amp keeps blowing fuses. And yes i am disconnecting the live fuse before replace my fuse. Any help appreciated

More Info. Like How many subs do you have. Amps. Speakers, Whats amp wired too. Whats your thickness on your wire. Did this just start happening. Whats your ground. Grounded to.

Fli trap 12 Active (not too bothered just wanted a cheap solution for now), used 8ga wire. Earthed to my boot catch. It was working perfectly then just stopped mid drive and now wont accept new fuses without a spark and the fuse blowing when i reconnect the live. It takes a 20amp fuse on the amp and theres a 60 on the live wire. http://www.powellsperformance.co.uk/images/Products/audio/flitraptwin12.jpg . thats what im running.

i'd trace the power wire if I were you. I bet it's grounding out somewhere, if you didn't use a grommet to get into the firewall that'd be where I start.
I routed through a factory grommit and sealed it with mastic silicone and live runs undeneath my carpet. Im took my seats out on install the wires

it sounds like the power wire is pinched somewhere. i would pull that wire out and check it out. when the fuse snaps as soon as you install it, thats a dead short in that wire most likely.

why would you do that on a simple install like you have...w/e. i bet that the route you put the power wire that it finally rubbed the jacket of the wire and it's grounding out. i'd put money on that. gl with taking those seats out again for 8 gauge.

Ill go and check now, Thanks for the quick responses. Got more in half an hour on here than i did in a week with a UK based site. Surely if it was shorting out though then it wouldnt be reading the same voltage as my battery with a voltmeter, as some of the charge would be being lost somewhere? or am i just not getting this

so you saying your getting a voltage readout at the amp without the fuse installed? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif that's impossible... you're not touching the correct terminals.

What 4 bolts for front seat and 3 for the rear? Yeah coz thats going to be a real head****. When i was in the shop the bloke said i need 8ga why question him. I have a problem and was asking for help Why do you have to be a complete **** about it. Obviously you are the be all and end all of ICE installation but we all cant be that gifted. If you have nothing better to do than come on a forum and pick holes in stuff everyone else does then you must have an amazing life. I for one am absolutley devasted that i am not you. The install is a week old so i doubt its managed to rub through 3mm of coating. I was thinking a dodgy unit but the shop aint open till monday. What would you advise that i stick the wires to the headliner?? Or have them floating in the middle of my car.

How is it impossible when i have just done it. I mean the fuse on the amp not on the live. And i put the voltmeter on the live and on the earth terminals and it came up on the screen 12.45volts but because you said it didnt then i must have dreamt it all

are you still gettning voltage after the fuse has blown? and i take it your testing the power and ground at the amp and not the rmt. and ground on the amp?

and are you talking about the power wire fuse or the fuse on the amp?

I apologise if i am not being clear, Im pretty new to this only did an install on my old car and it worked fine. This is my second install and my first problem. I have been taking the fuse out of the live near the battery. Then replacin the fuse on my amp then reconnecting the live. I dont have a distribution block just a live on the battery then a fuse after a couple of inches. Its the fuse on my amp that keeps blowing. When i first installed it i hooked the live up without the fuse in ran everything to the boot hooked it all up to the amp then put the fuse in and it all worked fine. I wasnt really playing loud music. The only reason i installed it was because my componant speakers in the car couldnt handle lows very well. So i installed the sub turned the lows down on my speakers just had mids and treble coming through my car speakers and the lows through my sub. I have had the seats out (its a british car not very big) and there are no breaks in the live. The RCA connecters are also fine. the Signal cable from my head unit i soldered the wire in and sealed it with waterproof duct tape so all i can think is i have been sold a dodgy amp. its like something inside it cant deal with power surges. Although it would never get anything more than 12.45v

don't call someone a dick if you're the one who doesn't know what they're talking about. funny how this help works. since now i know that it's the fuse on the amp. i know what the issue is and guess what, fuk you figure it out yourself.

Yeah i dont know what im talking about, I never pretended i did. I came on here asking for help and im sure your diagnostic will be perfect. Thing is i never called you a dick i called you a c..u..n..t. If you get your kicks out of talking down to people coz you know more about something than them. Thats your bag. Im sure there is plenty of stuff i know more about than you but i dont really want to ram it down your throat. Stupid tosser. ****ing inbred yankie prick
