Amp is burning fuses like no tomorrow

lol i didnt mean i melt the fuseholder, the fuse was burned so it couldnt be used.

1. How do i find out the fuse power of the amp?

2. Where can i get a 60 amp fuseholder?

3. fbi, i understood why the first fuse was burned because it was bridged and the amp isnt 2 ohm stable. i unbridged it an it was running 90x2 or 125x2 in 2 channel @ 4 ohm so it should have been fine. i was playing it at about 3/4 volume for about 3 songs and the subs stopped working. the amp is on, but no power, so im sure theres either a short in the power cable or the fuseholder is screwed. I didnt know if my power wire got warm or not. the ground wire is grounded properly, i didnt install it and i had a professional install it all. Ill go make sure that the ground wire is actually touching metal, but i dont think thats the prob.

you can get 60AGU(i'm assuming it's an AGU fuse[tube style]) fuses at a local radioshack or even an auto store. you don't need an entire fuse holder.

when you had the amp installed by a pro was it at a audio shop and have to pay for it? if so you should just go back there today/tomorrow and have them fix it for a faulty install if the power wire is actualy shorted or so...

as for how the amp gets hot i'm thinking it's from the ground, but i've never seen how hot those amps run so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

how could the amp be ON if the fuse is poped?

there should be nothing wrong with the fuse holder. just incorrect rated fuses were placed.

this might help some too..

yea how can the amp be on if the fuse is popped, that was what i was thinking too. i think that the ground wire might not be touching metal but i am not sure. someone from audio express did the job for me at my dads mechanic, but i cant get a hold of him til later this week. I think 60 agu might be needed. oh i dont have to get another fuseholder, thats a good thing. i am not sure if the power wire is shorted or not, but i have another power wire so maybe i should test it myself. last time when the fuse was actually popped, my amp wouldnt turn on. the amp turns on now but it seems that there has to be a short somewhere. how could i fix a short if it was in the power wire? i have an extra lightning audio power cable if i would have to rewire the whole thing but that would **** :-/

run a quick power wire from the battery and find out.

ok ok... so the amp turns on NOW, but you are NOT getting audio? check your speaker connections. they may have poped off or worse, messed up your subs. if possible check each sub with a home stereo for a minute just to see if they still work.

also check your RCAs.

IMO. you should just pull everything apart and start again. run the power wire. run the ground, run the RCA's, remote turn on, the speaker wire. it will be a pain in the ***.. but you would be more aware of how everything is being run amd have solid connections.

i need to go to bed now. work FTL.

hm lol, checking the speaker connections seems like a good idea. i think ill try that first and then run a power wire from the amp to the battery, if that doesnt work then idk lol

don't test it by stringing it through the whole car. hook it to the positive and then just wire it to the amp. it's only to test it. make it easy.

yea i wanst going to actually wire it, i was just going to plug it into the amp and the battery without going through everything lol. thanks for the tip tho. my guess is that it shorted out, but speaker wire/ground wire could be a possibility //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I had a problem like this except I was using a distribution block and my fuse there kept blowing. I'm guessing that your power wire is touching metal somewhere along the line. A new run of power wire to test it will be the way to go to narrow the problem down.
