Hi guys. putting together basic system. alpine 4 channel 120w rms 300w peak and alpine 500w rms 1000w peak. want to run 4g from battery to d block in trunk and 8g from there to amps. I have two amp kits. 4g and 8g. Im just wondering about the fuses. the one kit has 80amp fuse. can I use this from battery? one amp has a 25amp fuse , the other two 30 amp fuses. thanks for any help.

Who makes the kit? You should be fusing to the wire's rating, so if there's a spec, that's what you use.

Get a Mini-ANL style fuse holder with a 120A Fuse for the 4 gauge, and run 60A fuses in the distro block, assuming that it is a CCA Knu Kit.

Its a cca kit. Im confused. Been surfing all night and different opinions everywhere. Most say match amp fuse ratings.wouldnt the fuses you mention be overkill because they allow way more current then needed by these amps? Im just asking. New at this. Just getting back into this since 1980s. Raised my kids now want some fun lol

I just contacted support at Alpine. the guy told me I need to run 4g to the sub amp. that's different than everyone else has said too. but I asked him if I could just use the two amp kits seperatly for the two amps and hook it up that way and he said yes that would work. I know its more work but I think the hell with it, I will do it that way. two amps two kits two setups. should be ok I think

i think the guy at alpine was on crack. im going to split the amps like I was originally but with a bigger inline fuse. but do I really need to have a fused d block? and if I run 8g to both amps from dblock are the ground wires going to be 8g as well?

I would run the d block fuse holder. And 8awg is the absolute minimalist I'd run. Later down the road I'd switch that 8 awg wire to 4 though.

that's where its confusing. what fuses do I need in the dblock for 8 g wire running to the two amps? one has one 25a fuse and the other two 30am fuses. ????

Everyone's going to have their own opinion. I think as long as the amps are fused, a fused d-block is overkill. Just fuse the wire going into the d-block close to the battery at the wire's amp rating. The amps can protect themselves and you should be fine running 4ga to the Alpine amp. Don't worry about watts. Add up the fusing on the amps and that's how much current draw MAX you should expect. As long as the wire's rated for more than that, you're good to go.

Technically, you could even go up to 0ga on that amp if you have the ability to use a reducer or a ring terminal. If it's the push-in type (like the Rockford P8004 I had), it's most likely not going to fit, though. I would suggest this only because it means you're running wire once and you're done for good. If you put in 4ga and want to have something that draws more than 120-150A, you're going to have to upgrade the main power wire.

I just came across an alpine mrp m850 that I can snag for $100. Do you think this would be better than the m500? Only thing is my brand new sub( type r 1243d) is rated at 600w rms and the mrp 850 will be putting out 800w rms. I know theres ways around that. just wanted your opinion
