I must **** at searching but cant find a good thread on installing and amp in the 2012 GTI. I have installed amp's before and know the basics, but still have some questions pertaining to the GTI.
1. Does the stock touchscreen (non-Navigation) have RCA connections at the back or do i have to use a line level converter? If I have to use a line level converter, is it better to just use the one on my amp if it supports it?
2. Is there a separate amp for the stock speakers or is it all in the head unit? If so, where is it and should I hook up the line level off that?
3. What do people use for the amp power on line? I hear some wire into the cigarette lighter?
4. Any online guides for removing the dash to get the head unit out? I think i saw some images where you just pop off the ring and you have 4 screws, done.
5. Where is the firewall located? I think someone stated in their GTI you just had to remove the battery and holder and you could then see it? True for the 2012?
I don't plan to upgrade the speakers just yet, may in the future. Stock audio is pretty disappointing though, hoping some mid/bass will help out. My 65 dollar aftermarket phoenix golds in my old car were 10 times clearer and could handle more bass on their own than this entire car.
Thanks in advance.
