amp help?

so i have a mtx ta920001 on a apxx 18d2. i got a 170amp alt and 2 sp1700's in the trunk. the sub when it hits cuts out and the amp says short. if i dont play it at all for like 1hour it will work good for like 5min most of the way up. my volt meter will say 14v then start flashing on and off but flashes in the 14's then shuts off completely. i redid my ground good. i got my front batt tested at autozone today and it was bad. i took that batt out but still have the same problem...

the batts rest at about 12.4

any idea's?

so i got a diff volt meter that works on my system today. lowest i dropped was 12.6v it mainly stayed at 13.4. it cut out at 14.2 then i backed it off and it was still cutting out. this only happened after about 10min. any idea's?
