amp giving me half volume on 1 chan

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum and i guess i'm a novice with audio so go easy on me hehe. I have an Alpine MRP-T200 2ch amp for my rear 6x9's. all of a sudden my channel 1 gives the speaker about half volume. When it's turned up fairly loud you can't even hear the speaker. Is something like this fixable or am I going to need a new amp? thanks.

First make sure that it is the amp and not the speakers, the headunit or the wiring. Swap the speaker leads at the amp, if the problem switches sides, you can rule out the speakers and the wiring to them. Next disconnect the RCAs from the amp and feed the amp a signal from a portable CD player with a headphone to RCA adapter cable. If the problem is gone, you can rule out the amp as the problem. Next connect the same CD player to the other end (HU end) of the RCAs with the adapter and a set of RCA gender changers. If the prolem goes away you can rule out the RCAs. At this point you have either found the problem or ruled out everything but the HU. If the HU is the problem you will have to repair or replace it.

All that said, the first thing to check would be the connections of the RCAs and the speaker wires.
