Hey all. Just have a quick question for you all. I just got 2 of the JL 12tw1-4 subs for my truck. I asked Jl what amp they would recommend I use. The answer was the JL xd600/1v2. 600wrms@ 2ohm load. I like it,but it cost $450. I have been looking at some of the 500 watt amps also since that was the next thing they told me. I am torn on what to do. I will be putting the subs in a ported box w/1.1 cubic ft airspace for each sub. Going in my 11 Tundra double cab. I just want to make sure I get the right amp, as I only want to buy one time. I will be using 4 gauge power and ground wire for the amp. Thanks,

pioneer 8601 does around actually over 500 at 2ohm and is very cheap anywhere, they also have the 9601 if u want more power for later it's like $179

Thanks for the response. I am sitting here trying to figure this all out. I also saw amazon has the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D for $125. I will check out the pioneer amps you listed. Guess my other question would be this, I see that the JL 600 watt amp did over the rated power. The subs are only rated for 300 wrms. I assume that it is fine to give them more power (as the JL tech told me to get the xd600).

Yeah you'll be fine giving them more power. After voltage dips, rise, etc you'll be under their rms rating anyways. Bench tests are different than what you'll see in your vehicle. What is your budget?

I can afford to get the JL amp, I did find a coupon code for $75 off it, down to $375. With that said, I am just like everyone, if I can get the same / more for less money, count me in. Problem I have is my wife......I can only buy one time!!! So if a $450 amp is great, last , ect... then that is it. However if I can get an amp for way less money that is just as good, then I am just fine with that. I can always use extra money in my pocket.

As long as you don't clip the amp, it should last you a while regardless of the brand. The Infinity k600 for $150 at Crutchfield would serve you well. Will do over rated and is a solid brand.

Thanks again, but now you added anther to look at, ha ha. I picked the subs on what I had for space, that was kinda easy.....this not so much! this is day 5 of amp shopping/trying to figure it all out..... I will look at all the listed options, and hopefully I can decide. Thanks again. Oh and will 500 watts be much less noticeable that 600 watts on those subs?

You won't hear a difference. You can get a brand new k600 for $149, open box for $132, and scratch and dent for $125. All come with same warranty from Crutchfield. I just got a JBL Gtr-1001 scratch and dent and it looks pretty much brand new. That will save you a lot of money and they are very efficient amps so they don't draw on your electrical much. Good luck choosing!

jl just isn't worth new price.. rf is ok but i would get the 750.. like i said u may upgrade later so think about a good 1k or 1200 rms amp (for less $ than the jl u were gonna get) set gain at like 15% ish u can set amp for the power u need now (video can show u how with a volt meter and 50hz tone) and turn it up later for better subs..

I will search for the gain setup. Never knew I could use less power than rated! Thanks, now the rest of the night searching! That is quite ok though, I will order Sunday is my guess.

here it is.. basically if u are running at 2ohm u x the watts u want x 2 like 700x2=1400 squared = 37.4v is what meter should read..... if u at 1 ohm u just use the watts 700 squared= 26.4v.. very easy..
