Amp dB help

I have a alpine mrpm-1000 which pushes 1000w. Im running them to 2 12 rockford punchs which are 800w rms combined. I dont know what to set the dB screw in the side to i have a choice of 0,6, or 12 max. Should i run 3/4 on the gain screw so im pushing about 800 rms from the amp to both my subs?

set it to max and see what happens....

or...

use a dmm, turn the db(bass boost?) knob down and set the gain according to specs using the dmm.

adjust it by ear turn deck up to as loud as you want it to be ( i usually do 28/35) and adjust the gain and boost till it almost distorts back it off a lil then it should be set.
