Amp comparable to the a JL 1000/1?

I'm looking for an amp thats nearly as good as the 1000/1 for powering a 13.5 inch w7 (3ohms), and that is a lot cheaper obviously. Any suggestions?

JBL makes an amp that does power from 1-4 ohms, you could look into one of them IF you can find one. Not around all the time.

And the thing about JL's W7's is their resistence. If you run two Single 3 ohms you could run an amp at 1.5ohm, but if you're just running one it wont necessarily be as easy to find an amp.

Have you considered other woofers?(Different topic, but I wanted to ask)

I would pick up a 1000/1 or try a Kicker 1500.1 / similar amp that does around 1500 at 2ohm 750 at 4ohm. 3 ohms will put you right in the middle at around 1100

Sell it and buy a bigger woofer

The Kicker 1500.1 can be had used quite a bit cheaper than the 1000/1, is more efficient too. Good amp if you want to upgrade to a tad bigger sub later, too.

Edit - 1500.1 will give you more power at 3ohms than the 1000/1 will give you period.

find an amp that will do a 2 ohm load and just use that amp

you will not notice any kind of wattage loss

Well, I have a 1000/1 now, but I was thinking of maybe trying to free up some cash and selling it for 500

That sub acts more like a D2 than a D1.5.

The power differences that people are talking about is totally inaudible and might get you a tenth of a dB on the meter. More power (in the range that they're talking) is a totally point less upgrade. Only reason that I would upgrade personally is to go to a smaller (physically) or more efficient amp.

wasn't enuf, had to upgrade to a 1500.

Now it sounds much better

Alpine MRP-M1000 pushes one nicely... new at best buy is $300... not sure about online... or the other PDX 1000.1 that headlessskoopa stated... but that is a more pricy amp... but they are nice!!!

your not going to get 500 for it. mine as well keep the thing, why go throught the trouble of finding a buyer, shipping, finding another amp, and waiting all that time??
