setting up a system in my 96 bronco.

thinking of a kenwood head unit and replacing the factory speakers, front doors and mid panels, and I have a single 10" thx in a tube. looking at 5 channels amps, hifonics, audiobahn, soundstream, pyle, all about the same specs and price ($180-250-ish). any opinions? advice? recommendations? any others to look at?

thanks..

They're all pretty much the same, low end made in China. You'll get what you pay for, just have reasonable expectations and be very sure you buy from a company who will honor the warranty. These cheaply made electronics are rather prone to problems. Short life should be expected but at least a good warranty will save you if it fails in the first month out of the gate. Odds are if it'll last a month it'll last 2-3 years. Resale value will be little to none on this type of equipment but at the price, they're meant to be disposable.

I would mark audiobahn and pyle off of the list. PPI should also be similar to soundstream.

Sometimes the JL 5 channels pop up for sale in the classifieds; a nicer used amp would be my first choice.

Id look at used around that price range for a 5 ch amp.Id try to find like an Elemental Designs 9-5(ED 9-5)would do nicely..Look for an Older US Amps 5 ch also..Those have a nice sub ch with some decent power.Id recommend a 4 ch for all your mids and highs, and a dedicated sub/mono amp to get the best for your money.Youd be surprised at what you can find used for both especially old school power for the money
