Amp always on but plays music when it wants

I have a Directed 1500d amp running two JL 10W6 subs wired down to 1.5 ohms I believe. This amp has worked well for me for about two years. Over the past two months it has started to quit sending a signal/power to the subs. I can have the stereo on and watch the power light on the amp. It might play for 30 seconds and then quit but the power light stays on. No protection lights or anything. It may decide to play again or may not. Sometimes it will play for half an hour and sometimes not at all.

I really don't want to have to just chuck this thing in the trash without knowing what is wrong with it, especially if it may be something as simple as a loose connection internally. Is there any know problem like this with amps? Does anyone have any advice on where to start?
