AMM-1 Test of Orion XTR1500.1D

OP, what kind of current did the XR1500 draw @ 1 ohm dynamic?

The tests I've seen of the XTR2500.1d @ 1 ohm show incredibly high draw. Almost down to 50% (possibly slightly less) efficiency as well.

I don't have a clamp that measures max current draw, so it's tough for me to say accurately. The two power supplies have independent amp and voltage meters, and at that moment one flashed 104 and the other flashed 78. But it could be more because those meters lag behind in my experience. For example on a dynamic run of 1000w, I sometimes only get a flash equivalent of 20 amps at times, which is completely inaccurate.

So now that this amp is on the way to my Cobra the inevitable question of whether I should get cheeky and see if it’ll suffer a .5ohm load if I go with two RE SEXR2 10D2s? Anybody else been crazy enough to try?

NO DONT DO IT. When I got the Orion Amps, I asked BigD a bunch of questions, one was about dropping ohm loads and specifically said going below 1 ohm on these is asking for trouble, as the protection circuit is a bit weak. So if you do decide to drop down, you won't have the amp protecting itself against an unsafe ohm load.

Some amp pr0n of the 1500.1
