Am I ripping this lady off or what??

I used to detail cars for a living while i was in h.s.
the car looks fine when i get done, it's just so small and she keeps it so clean on her own, plus after i've done it a few times it get easier and easier to do it. I've spent 4+ on my truck but that's cause i dont' do it that often.....

I guess if she offers it i'll take it-I have a truck payment, ins, phone so the $$ is badly needed, lol.
Yeah, if it is small and stays clean for the most part then maybe I see an hour plus. But that is still uber quick!

I only detail mine twice a year and wash mine about once a week if I can.

For the amount of work you are doing, you are getting a fair price. If it was just a wash and a vacuum, then it might be a little much. But if you are washing, drying, waxing, doing the wheels, cleaning the engine, cleaning the interior, dressing the plastic, etc, then it's a fair price. You have to break it down into 2 parts... supplies and labor. Unless she is providing you with your detailing supplies, you have to factor that cost into the price, and detail supplies aren't always cheap. You also have to decide how much your time is worth and charge accordingly. Don't sell yourself short on that end, charge what you feel is fair, not what would necessarily be a good deal for her. Don't worry about how much she makes per year, that's not important. It shouldn't make a difference whether she makes $10k a year or $100k. If you want to operate a business, then set your prices subjectively. I do some contract programming work on the side, and I always charge the same for labor whether I am working for an individual or a company. And my labor cost reflects what I feel I am worth, based on my experience, education, etc, which works out to about $40/hour, and because of that, I don't feel guilty charging as much as I do. I charge what I feel is fair to charge for the quality of work and service that I deliver to my clients.

wtf is with people thinking that just because you make alot of money you have to spend it? My dad makes $140k+ year and you'd NEVER know it. My folks horde money. He gets a $500/month car allowance from work and drives an 02 Trailblazer. My mom drives an '03 F-150. Not '07 BMWs.
"the best way to make money is to save it"....ring a bell?
Yah true.. 100k a year is nothing this girl and your folks can't afford an '07 bmw... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

LOL @ This.....My mom makes about $180k a year as a cardiac or nurse and she owns her own medical accounting business. My dad makes about $160k a year as a computer systems analyst.....now for the point, mom has a 2007 BMW 545i and my dad has a 2002 BMW 540i.....ok, well thats it.

Peace nukkas and hoes hah

I have no idea if you're being sarcastic or not.

Are you saying $100k is nothing?

You need to learn proper grammar so I can give a proper response...

FWIW, my parents could get an 07 BMW. So could I...heck, so could alot of people...but how many of them would have it repo'd? I know I would. Financing a $60k car on the same salary makes absolutely no sense to me. The ability to buy (finance) doesn't make you smart or rich. I know of a couple guys my age who make pretty decent money now, but they're in SERIOUS debt because they spend it like they're dying tomorrow. Brand new F250, 50" plasma, $142k house, etc... He probably makes $55k/year.

I just don't understand when I drive down the street and see all these young couples with houses that are EASILY $150k + with brand new Tahoes out front...like they have something to prove. Christ, they're going to be flat broke and divorced in a couple years. Why don't people realize that and save some dang money instead of feeling the need to blow it?...idiots... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

That's different... $340k combined is enough to afford those things (depending on what else they own/finance).

I'm not saying $100k is nothing, at all. It's relative to what you buy/owe. Read above. I'm pointing out the young kids fresh out of school that go and blow all their money out the gate on a new car and house because they "can",...when they really can't. Granted, each situation is different, but this is typical of what I see nearly everyday.

If you're married, the combined income changes things, obviously.

^true.

And so what if 100K is or is not a lot? Maybe she doesn't feel the need to blow a shit ton of money on financing a brand new car that won't be worth half of it when it's all said and done? She has two kids, so she probably spends/saves her money there, like a good parent. Accords are reliable and the car is five years old, why get rid of it?
