Maybe just too many hours at work, anyways I am trying to install my buddy's stereo (dep 1100). Previously he had a crappy brand X in his car, working but crappy. I uninstalled brand X and attempted to install the Pioneer without any progress. The Pioneer's lights blink on and off?? I installed my CDA-7949 and the item powered up okay except the display was very dim. I installed my CDA-7878 and the unit did not even power up. The car is a Honda Civic 97, am I missing something?? I thought I was proficient enough to connect the ground, switched and unswitched wires??? Thanks ahead, I'm off to work ..................

the yellow wire is the constant 12V...the red wire is the switched 12V. If there's an illumination wire, it's the orange wire. Are you using a wiring harness? That really makes it easy and tough to screw up.

The unswitched connection does not seem to be working on the harness. I found another unswitched wire to use. Does anybody think that perhaps not enough power is getting to the radio?? If I use a multimeter, both the yellow and red should be around 12v - 14 v depending if the car is running or not??? Thanks ahead

what about directly wiring to the battery and using the switched power to turn the deck on/off?

that would eliminate any power concerns...
