Alternator questions

I think I'm going to get an H/o alt for my ranger.

The only thing that's holding me back is that I might get a new vehicle in the next year or two. Isn't or possible to sent the alt out to be re cased to fit another vehicle?

I need one but I don't wanna be out $500 when I get something else

Also how much was your alt is you have one?
