Alternative to Dynamat?

Avoid asphalt products - not only are they much less effective, they have an unacceptably high failure rate.

Weight is a very important factor. Visco elasticity improves performance significantly, but that effect also corresponds to weight. Liquids need to be applied as thickly as mats to have the same benefit. At the same thickness, they weigh almost the same.

The only way to reduce weight is to use less, but there are plenty of ways to get where you want to get and still minimize the mass you add. Rattles are caused by to hard objects vibrating against each other. Find the source and use foam tape, silicone caulk and/or expanding foam to imobilize those hard objects.

Vibration dampers like Dynamat Xtreme, etc. will reduce rattles by reducing the transmission of vibrations. Use them where resonance is a significant problem. You will also get good results by stiffening/bracing the worst areas by fabricating your own solution using tubing mesh and the like.

I'm a strong believer in using closed cell foams everywhere you deaden, for all but pure SPL setups. These add a lot to the total deadening effort and add almost no mass.

Second skin is your best bet. You wont need to use multiple layers so that will help you out.

If your main concern is weight you should probably loose some weight yourself and take out your subs and spare when you race.

Somethig for tag rattle that I have found does the trick, and is quick & easy, take some felt tabs, like those u stick under chair legs, and stick a few behind your tag so that the tag no longer touches the vehichle. I know they make deadner for that but it's quick, easy, cheap and cuts out all that crappy tag rattle. You can also cut them in half and use them in some places inside your vehichle to help stop some rattles. Make sure when u use them inside that u loosen the panel that is rattling and stick one behind it (where its not seen) and then snap it back in. It will work in some cases. Very cheap and easy for you to try yourself. But it will in NO WAY stop all the rattles, maybe just some of the bad ones. I would recomend some kind of sound deadner first , this is just to stop some of your major ratttles.
