I'm gonna b running a minimum of 1000rms and possibly up to 2400rms. I want 2 get an alternator that will handles the 2400rms. How many amp alt do I need? And where do u get 1? I have a 99 s10 blazer. And if I get an ho alt do I need a beter battery?

220 amp alt at minimum ,there are a couple of places to get the alt excessive alts, powermaster ,dc creations ,mechman singer .i have an alt 260 amp that wont fit my truck ,you would have to make a small bracket to make it work in your truck tho its a chevy alt too.

You dont really NEED a HO alt when running less than 2000w, a nice big battery will be fine with a common size stock alt. of say 110, 120 or so, i was running around 2500w on a stock alt and big deka batt and only dropped to 12.5 after 5 minutes of basically continuous bass. If you have the money, then definitely go ahead and get one though

actually not true in his case ,i had a s10 for 16 years ,the 110 amp alt is just enough to run the stock systems in his truck .if he wants to run any system over 500 watts rms he needs the alt at least and a better battery as well.

yea i can back that up the 105amp alt that usually comes with that truck only has like 30amps of extra juice most older chevy trucks are like that until about 06 i believe then they had a voltage control which increase output voltage till the actual drop voltage would maintain 12.5v so u had the potential for running 16v for short periods of time and since it would only increase voltage under load your vehicle woudnt see 16v, it would see the drop voltage. my 07 silverado would run 15.6v with 1200w draw full tilt and i never had a problem from my amps of my truck

My lights dim and I'm only running abt 250 rms now. I think its goin out anyways cause without stereo going turn signals make volt meter drop. Thanks for the help. Mylows10- I won't b ready for awhile but how much for ur alt?

You are going to want an alternator for 2k or over. It's either an alternator, which provides power at a higher voltage, or a bigger battery bank, which provides power down around 12.6V. You're still going to want atleast one good AGM battery, just upgrade stock. You may need more depending on how efficient your amp is and what exactly you are running, but I know I don't see less than 13.5V running a DC 2.0k off a DC Power 270XP (270A alt) and a yellowtop under the hood.

If you're buying one get the biggest you can afford. Also, I know that DC Power does case swaps for $125. I just emailed them the other day about mine. So you might be able to buy any DC used and get it swapped for your motor for a good amount less than new. You should email them about that though before you buy something. I don't know if they can make any size fit in any vehicle, as I know brand new they don't offer all sizes for all cars. They have been a lot of help with me, as I have had some issues and questions that I have pretty much pointed directly at my Yellowtop. I have not had any mechanical issues with the actual alternator. I don't know about other companies firsthand, though there are other good ones.

Buy a voltage meter. I firmly believe it's the most essential tool when riding that line of possibly not having enough electrical.
