The idea was to test the musicality and overall power handling more than anything. The type R just flat out handled more power and sounded better. The test was in no way biased toward any woofer... if anything the type R should have crapped out @ the power level - but it didnt.

The box works with the SX just fine... 148.5 at 51hz is a respectable number... but it just doesnt handle the power musically.

You must have failed to read that which I quoted, and was responding to with my statement. It would have answered your relevancy question. Or are we just suppose to let you guys make these claims about the Type R versus (whatever) but if we reply WE are the one's veering off topic...? Its great to post scores like this, but when you start extrapolating that data to imply one sub is better than another, things get out of hand. SBlazer made the comment he got approx the same score as a pair of XXX 12's. So what? Install will determine your over all SPL score MUCH MORE than the raw driver. That is an idea done to death on this board, Im sure I need not explain it further here.
Im glad you guys are happy with the new type R, sounds like a nice redesign for Alpine. But, lets not get carried away here.

I doubt any test would be good enough for you... lets not forget the test box was built very close to RE spec for "SQL" and it just didnt do it on music. That much holds true.

We werent SOLELY comparing SPL scores here... the SPL scores are just to give you guys an idea of how loud it was.

The facts are SBlazer compared to a system (dual xxx 12's) that was not in the 'test', nor was the install even mentioned (beyond amplifiers used). I made note that install is the key and is what should be considered being compared there. Do you not agree?

My comments were not based on your test, or any of its three subwoofers. So frankly I have no idea why you are telling me no test would suffice (even you agree the xxx's were not in the test) or why you are bringing up the SX. *shrug*

yea, the XXX 12 setup wasnt related at all... completely OT. The only things that can be directly compared are the woofs in the test.

not sure how... ive been around quite a few and they just don't handle power for any period of time. They will burp your @$$ off but for music they get funky fast.

wierd...i run my 2 sx's with probably a little over 2600 watts on a good electrical system and i play them every single day on full volume with songs that have long sweeping bass, not little bump bump stuff but i mean ones that just keep sending power through the coils and they still run like freakin champs...no sign of them giving out yet...

splblazer: sx's can only impress for burps and not daily? i run them daily and i impress everyone i see. ive had 3 people so far follow me into parking lots just to ask what the hell im running, and a couple times ive gotten people getting out of their cars and in my face in my car window telling me to turn my shit down at red lights, which i usually do(although i am guilty of occasionally just letting it play).

i assume you are running dual 2's and the amp sees a 2 ohm load?

If that is the case, expect no more than 1500-1800 total watts out of it, this being full tilt.

hmm are the new R's still around 200-ish? if so i may get a 15 and drop it in my SX box wit the same amp power and just do a listening test to see which one is more musical/louder...

hmm thats weird...i dont know about your amp, but my amp puts out 1500+ at 13.8 volts at 4 ohms... and 2500+ at 13.8 volts at 2 ohms... its only 2 ohms stable and thats where it puts out maximum power...

tuned high=helps keep impedance rise down as well

i should say this before i go any further i am not doubting the type r's at all, hey if they get as loud or louder than the sx's thats all fine and dandy, what i am defending though is the durability of the sx's and the musical ability of them. they sound **** musical in a ported box and i listen to anything from lil jon(not really for sq) to coldplay and jazz (which can be tested). hell the sx's might not even be as musical as the type r's and once again im not tryin to argue that, the only thing im tryin to argue is that the sx is a very durable woofer
