can the alpine type r comps be run off a hu for a short period of time or should they wait for to be amped? like would they sound like crap while waiting for an amp?

not god awful but definatly alot better amped. wont get too loud without an amp either. 79 dollar profile would even work them good.

I got my type r's running off da head unit for now untill my new amp comes later this week and they sound ok with he adjustments i made from the head unit.

you install either right they are great lines either or. poor performance 9 out of ten times is directly associated with a bad install, set up improperly or a bad tweek job.

how long have you had them running w/o an amp? and how big is your amp that you are getting to power them?

for about a month or so. My amp is supposed to come in later in the week which is the one i have in my sig below. it gets 50 wrms at 4 ohms, but i hear that alpine is under rated so i'm guessing maybe 60rms?

hey albarran9 for not much more you could of gotten a Alpine MRP-F240. the bridge output at 4 ohms x 2 is 100 watts. w00t on ebay you can get it used all for 60 bucks.

I got the Alpines and installed them already they sound pretty good.

Would an amp for my speaks make much of a diffrence? I've heard theres very little diffrence

turn the speakers up until they distort (with head unit power). how loud does it get until it distorts? is it A) too loud for you to even turn the volume up that high or B) it distorts at a lower level than what you would consider 'loud'. if the answer is A you probably won't be needing an amp.. but if it distorts at a point you wouldnt even consider being close to loud or loud, then you better bet that when u hook an amp up to that bad boy its not gonna distort at 'loud' volumes. and that, my friend, is the difference between underpowering you speakers and giving them an ample amount.
