Alpine unit Error problem(need help)

Hi guys , this is my first post.It might be a dumb question , but i need help to make a decision . My alpine unit plays a cd for about 20 secs and then shows an "E" on the display and then stops playing the cd and sometimes it doesn't even play at all .Is it a costly problem ,do i repair the unit or toss it out and buy a new one (warrenty has expired).

It's a bit of an old model ,it's CDE-7871E. Any help would be appreciated.
