My Alpine 15" Type-R Dual 2 ohm voice coil sub came in today. I am running it off of a Planet Audio 2400W x 1 x 1 ohm amp (needless to say excess power). So I am running the sub at 1 ohm because I figured it would be more efficient and maybe keep my lights from dimming as they did with 2 ohm. Does 1 ohm create more distortion than 2 ohm? The amp IS stable at 1 ohm. Box is about 2.2 cu ft sealed.
Anyway, I've never had a brand new sub before so I'm not sure how this one should sound. I know the subs surround and spyder structure is tight right now. The sub is making a faint high pitch noise kinda when bass hits but not throughout the whole note, just right when it starts moving everytime. I hear these subs especially take a long time to break in so maybe it will get better. Is this true, and will the sub sound better over time? Should I just play it at normal volume to break it in? For some reason bestcarstereo.com didn't give me an owner's manual too. Thanks for your help.
