Alpine SWR-1243D

It would be an upgrade if you can find some more power for it. I would definately recommend building a ported enclosure for it though. It will increase output dramatically
Im running a sony xplod 1000w amp, im unsure of the specifics of the channels and such now. Beast amp though

You can't wire that amp down to 2 ohms with that sub either. You would need a Dual 2 ohm sub and wire it up to 4 ohms in order to get it's rated power out of it but even then, it won't be near enough. I would heavily consider picking up a decent monoblock amp if you decide to change the sub. If you do the sub, amp, and build a box together, you are in for a world of difference.

I remember seeing Alpine engineer posting that Alpine is replacing right now this line of Type-R and Type-S subwoofers with brand new 2012 Type-R and Type-S subwoofers. The new Type-R appears to be aimed more at SQL crowd with its now 1000watts rating, while the Type-S is aiming more at all around SQ/SPL. Type-S xmax has gone up to 15mm, probably type-s power handling is up too. Just mentioning.. I'd be tempted to try the new Type-S unless you have a capable mono block amplifier.
