Alpine problems

As far as the amp goes: sounds like a bad amp to me. If its going into protection with a 2 ohm load and its supposed to be able to handle a 2 ohm load with no problem then the amp is NOT functioning as designed. Take it back if you can.

As I posted earlier...........take that amp back where you got it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i got it from best buy. im going to see what their exchange/return policy is now. im checkin online. but my voltages never drop. and even then, wouldnt it go into protection or shut off from not enough current instead of too much?

The only way the amp would draw too much current would be if there is a mechanical flaw in its build or something on the board has malfunctioned since the amp was installed (which goes back to an error during the build process).

Having larger gauge power cable won't pose any danger to an amp...possibly it might cause an inconvenience/headache trying to cram giant gauge cable into a terminal that wasn't designed to accept it but nothing detrimental to its operation. Regardless of how much current a cable is capable of carrying the load placed on it will be entirely dependant on the equipment connected to it - not purely its size. A 1/0awg cable is capable of carrying 200+ amperes of current. If you were to somehow attach that large a wire to say a 400 watt RMS output amplifier it won't draw that 200+ amperes. Assuming it is operating correctly it'll draw less than 30a. It's completely irrelavent that the cable size is capable of handling a bigger load - there's nothing to place that higher load on it.

well. best buy is sending me a refund in the mail. better than what i was expecting. i was expecting them to be like "well you didnt buy the extended warranty. blah blah blah so we cant do anything". so now i have 335 and some odd change left to spend on an amp. so now here is what i want to do. i want an amp that will put out 400-600 RMS at 2ohms. i have like i said, 335 bucks to spend soon. anyone here have any suggestions as to amps? Or better yet..what would be a good amp for 400 or under that would push 2 alpine type R's? I might wanna add a second one. So i need some suggestions on good amps that put out around 1000w of good, clean power

WTF??? You'll post anything to have a high post count won't you.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
