Hey all,
I am having some issues with my new stereo installation. My sub amp keeps cutting out and having distortion on watt spikes. I contacted Alpine and they said if the amp drops below 12v it will shutoff. I am trying to solve that issue and I am not experienced enough. I can only turn the amp to about 45gain and unit to about 25gain then the subwoofer pops and the amp cuts out. The front and rear components work just fine and clear.
My Experience
I have installed all of my stereos in the past for all my cars, I have installed stereos for friends and family as well. This is my 1st higher end installation.
My Setup
Vehicle : 2001 Ford F250 7.3 Turbo Diesel (2 Batteries)
Head Unit : Sony XAV-601BT
Amp Front/Rear : Alpine PDX F4 4x100 watt
Speaker Front/Rear : 2 Sets Boston Acoustic SR50 Components 90watt
Amp Sub : Alpine PDX 1.1000 1000watt 2/4ohm
Sub : Boston Acoustic SPG555 2ohm 1000watt
Wiring:
Power : 4gauge from battery to distribution block, 4gauge from block to both amps(12ft)
Ground : 4gauge from both amps to the bolts underneath my passenger and back seat. Both bolts and metal have been scraped clean of paint and other coatings.
Remote : Small gauge from receiver to both amps.
Inline Fuse behind the battery, power wire.
Sub Amp Speaker output is on the left channel per manual.
Sub Box : Custom build, 17x14x11
Checked Batteries they are both at 12.96volts.
Checked Batteries with truck running for altanator, both batteries sit at 14volts.
Checked Voltage at amp during bass spikes and it does drop to 11volts at 45gain amp and 25gain on unit.
So my question is, how do I stop this from cutting out and hopefully clear the distortion. I have researched the sub amp combo for months before my purchase and watched videos of them pounding on youtube but mine does not compare in sound quality or strength. From reading I am undecided if I need a bigger alternator, install a personal battery just for the amp, a capacitor(hearing bad things about this being worthless but sounds like maybe needed for the spikes).
Thank you all!!!
