Alpine IVA-W505 questions

OK, my install is MOSTLY done. Having trouble cramming everything in enough to close up the dash, but that's my problem. I have the Imprint processor, and the HD Radio add-on...the latter connects through the Imprint via an AI-Net cable to the HU. The USB iPod interface connects through the HD Radio unit to the HU so you can tag songs for later download. In light of this info, I'm seeing some weird stuff, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it. The iPod works great hooked up this way. However, if I select HD Radio as the source, it appears to tune stations just fine, however I get no audio at all. Then...if I go back to the iPod, its no longer recognized by the HU...it says "No USB Device connected." I can fix this by cycling power, or SOMETIMES by selecting a different source like Nav or Disc (both of which work) and then going back to the iPod. Any ideas? There is no direct audio link to the HU from the HD-Radio...the USB connection passes through, and the HD Radio info goes through the AI-Net, both of which work to the point of using the iPod and tuning channels (and it does receive song and station info). Just, no audio, and the weird USB interaction.

OK, I will answer my own question, in case anyone else runs into the problem. The Alpine literature is unclear about the AI-Net cabling when using both a TUA-550HD and the Imprint processor. It apparently matters which end of the cable goes where, and where in the chain the different boxes go. I originally had the HU connected directly to the Imprint, and the Imprint connected to the 550HD. Didn't work, as described above. I thought that I had the Imprint-to-550HD cable backwards, so I swapped them...still didn't work. So then I connected the HU directly to the 550HD, and then connected the 550HD to the Imprint. STILL didn't work, only now I got no sound out of the iPod either. SO I was about to say **** it, put it back the way I had it originally and call Alpine tomorrow...but I thought it was all ripped out, may as well try one last thing....I swapped the ports I was using on the 550HD. Completely non-intuitive! To be honest by this point I don't even remember which way I have it now, only that it seemed wrong, but now works. Bottom line...if you have this problem, start swapping your AI-Net cables around, eventually it will work. Most likely, it will be the last config you try!
