Alpine Ipod Interface adapter KCA-420i

I recently had the alpine CDA-9847 headunit installed in my car as well as the alpine interface adapter for my ipod ( KCA-420i ). I am looking for someone that has some experience with alpine headunits and this adapter. By the time you have 18 gigs of music on your ipod it is very very time consuming to scroll through artists with the rotary knob since you have several hundred artists to get through. I tried splitting up my music alphabetically by playlists ie/ I put all artists A-F on one playlist etc. But I cant do an artist search within a specific playlist, only for all the music on my ipod. Is there any way to better organize this so that I can more easily find a specific artist? Is there anyways I can scroll through the artists by alphabet instead of by each individual artist? Any help would be great, so far I am finding this interface to be very difficult to work with. What have you guys done to cope with this?

Set up different playlists, that's what I do with my iPod.

if it itsnt a bother to not pick what song you want put it on shuffle if you can

this is half the reason i returned the alpine HU...

i hope the pioneer ipod adapter works better... i heard

that alpine thing sucks fat knutz...

it's pretty lame. i was reallly let down by the interface. the best way that i've figure out is to make playlists by genres. then if i really want to hear something thats not on the playlist, i unplug the ipod, choose it manually then reconnect it. btw, even though it's not perfect, i still think controlling the ipod on the iva-d300 is pretty pimp. i'm hoping pioneer, will surpass alpine forcing alpine to improve upon their platform

I helped my friend install the pioneer adapter to his $2k pioneer screen. Easy install, but that thing blows. I figured all the artists would show up on his screen in abig list, but no. It shows up at the top one artist at a time. He has to hit the next buttn to got the next song, which you can only see when its playing and you use the up down arrows to scroll through diff artists one at a time.

pioneer is only 1 artist at a time? at least i get like 3 at a time to scroll through.

pioneer's isnt any better people... I have the 5700 and am pretty disappointed with the integration. Doesn't really sound any different than alpines... Id like to check out the clarion with the ipod integration since they claim thiers is the best
