Alpine HU Trade-In @ Good Guys

I bought an Alpine CDA-9815 from Good Guys with a warranty valid until 2009. It's officially broken as of today.

Called Good Guys, and they won't have a installer until next week. They said I can send in the item for service (under warranty), but it will take a few weeks (4-6). Also, they won't give me a temporary unit unless they have something open box.

My other option is to replace it for a NEW item of comparable quality. He will credit me my original purchase price of the unit, but in doing so I loose the 5-year warranty. Should I give up my warranty for a new unit or should I send my 9815 in for service? If I get a new unit, which Alpine model should I ask for?

The CDA-9835 seems to be closest (V-Drive, two line color display), but it is priced $100 higher than the 9815 was. Also the CDA-9855 has got a cool screen and is priced the same, but doesn't have the v-drive (I'll use separate amps so it's a mute point) and it uses a weird "GlideTouch" bar. What do you think?

Also, I checked out their website and they don't have any Alpine units. Do they still carry Alpine units? If not, what Pioneer unit should I get?

What?...I sent my amp in at good guys under their warranty and they refused to give me money. Its still in the shop, so I was forced to buy a new one because I can't live without radio. Was your head unit under $200?

DO NOT, i repeat...DO NOT settle for the 9855.

They both ****...
Hate to say it, but Alpine went downhill this year. Their new units have a rediculous 10% failure rate, the now longer have v-drive internals, the glide-touch is gay/sucks balls, and the only unit with 4v pre-outs is the 55 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

That's why last years 9835's went from selling around $300 shipped or less...to well over $400 on ebay. Hardcore audio enthusiasts now this year's line-up is mediocre at best //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

There are plenty of alpine users who would disagree that the display is the only difference between the 9815 and 9835. I remember one guy who had a 9815(pre outs were gutless, to say the least...that complaint was seen all over the forums) who went to the 9835. He tested the pre outs and they were definitely better(by better, he meant they actually put out rated voltage).

If I had to buy an alpine from the past 3 years, I would get a 9835(other than the F#1 status, of course).

Sooo much BULLSHIT in this thread.

Guys get sum ****in facts first.

U'll be fine with 2v preouts. Unless the gains on yer amp start at 2v

I have access to alpine refurbs. The amount of refurbs availble do not comply with anything that was said in this thread...

****in blows my mind how people just talk straight shit misleading people into buying or not buying something.
