Alpine HU Depth Issue

Well my brother and I are installing comps, subs and amps in his olds 88. His Alpine 9856 fit perfectly w/o RCA's, thus we now have a depth problem. I cannot get the deck back into its original position. Ive tried right angle connectors and we even dremeled out a bunch of plastic from behind the HU. Nothing has worked, we still have about an inch or so of space.

Any ideas?

Can you get a pic of this?
Not really due to the limited space.

But essentially the wiring harness and antenna can be manipulated enough to not pose a problem, however, with RCA's plugged in the connectors are just too long and hit the back wall (ie air duct)

I mean it should give you an idea of how small an area I have here...I cant even get a camera in there...

Sounds strange.

They arent long enough to go to either side, or above or below the deck?

Maybe ask on an oldsmobile forum, someone has probably had the same problem before.

The cables themselves are no problem. its just where they connect to the deck.

Most likely you'll have to make some sort of spacer bezel.

I ran into the same problem in an 85 Skylark I had once. There simply was not enough room between the face of the dash and the a/c ducting for an aftermarket HU with any accessory cabling attached to it. Wasn't gonna happen. So, with three sets of RCAs plugged in I had to make a spacer.

stealitall and Anonymous ~ the OP has already stated having tried to use right-angle adapters to no avail //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I think he just ran into one of the older GM products (and there are many) that didn't offer sufficient room behind the dash for what has become a pretty typical aftermarket HU and all its associated accessory connections.
